The top dead center is when the piston reaches the peak of its compression stroke. Often used as a reference point for timing by the vehicle’s engine, the TDC point is when the intake and exhaust valves are closed. The spark plug then receives a signal to send a current and at TDC, the piston is compressed down for maximum ignition.
The TDC is responsible for running the engine, so it is definitely a vital component. Due to its importance, we recommend you have it fixed right away or at least have your car diagnosed by a certified mechanic as soon as possible. We would advise against driving until it is fixed just to ensure you are not stuck in the middle of the road with an engine that doesn’t know how to well… be an engine.
