When your engine starts up, it needs to create vacuum and will take a few minutes to warm up. This is important for other options such as your cruise control or your heater, but that’s not all. Vacuum is necessary for so many components in your vehicle including the exhaust gas recirculation system that it needs its own sensor.
Once your vehicle has reached the correct temperature after warming up, the sensor will allow vacuum to flow through your vehicle and your heater and other options to work. This is why getting that heater on in the winter can take a few minutes.
