EGR, or exhaust gas recirculation, is a system within your exhaust controls that help reduce your emissions by allowing gases to circulate and be burnt again. By doing so, you reduce overall emissions and increase your mileage, leading to a more efficient drive. The temperature sensor is a key player in that. As the cousin of the EGR pressure sensor, the temperature sensor monitors how hot the EGR system is at any given time. The EGR valve only opens and closes when the temperature is reported to be within a certain range, so it is important the sensor works properly.
EGR systems are integral for getting the mileage you expect from your vehicle, helping your car comply with environmental standards and preventing noxious gas buildup. If any of the components are faulty, they need to be replaced immediately, and the EGR temperature sensor is no exception.
