Originally a feature afforded by only luxury vehicles, almost all cars now offer a door lock relay. This allows the driver to unlock and lock all four doors simultaneously and is a feature drivers’ today commonly use. This device is part of the internal circuitry of the door lock actuator and receives signals from the electric motor to lock or unlock doors. If there is an issue with the relay it may even be accompanied by malfunctions in the actuator.
As the door lock relay is not necessary for driving your vehicle, you may have it replaced at your convenience. Once you are ready, we recommend you get a diagnostic inspection from one of our mechanics, as symptoms mimic many other door lock actuator issues. If you attempt fixing it yourself and are familiar with the variety of actuator issues, ensure that you turn the battery off to avoid electrocution and remain safe.
One of the best car experiences I've ever had. 10/10. Booked and quoted on the phone. George was a really nice guy. Knowledgable and practical. Only did the work that was needed with a head's up of when to expect future service. All for a competitive price while I continued with my normal day in my own home. Why didn't anyone think of this before?! I will definitely use them again and recommend to my friends.
