When fuel starts to leak, the fuel pump can be a hazard if it keeps running. If the vehicle comes to a sudden stop or there is an issue with the fuel, there is a shut off switch that allows the fuel pump to stop operation. Paired with a reset button, this switch is usually located near the airbag module. If the switch turns off by accident, then it is best to hit the reset button to continue normal car function.
