Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) solenoids are electrically powered systems that wirelessly help your car’s exhaust gases recirculate to be burned for cleaner and more efficient output. When the engine is cold or running without much need for power, the solenoid will remain closed, not needing a lot of recirculation since there is less fuel being burnt. When the engine needs a lot of power though, the solenoid kicks into high gear, opening wide to allow a large air intake.
You will not only have a poor performing engine with a faulty EGR solenoid, but you will also likely fail your emissions test. Do the planet and your gas bill both a favour and have this solenoid replaced as soon as you can by a qualified mechanic.
